The Gyuto Foundation, which runs the temple, is dedicated to the preservation of Tibet’s cultural and spiritual heritage. In the spirit of the Dalai Lama, the Center supports free mediation as well as runs classes and teaching sessions promoting interfaith dialogue.

The founder of this monastery, the Venerable Thupten Danyo, has spearheaded the Delek Children’s Foundation to provide education and health care to the children of the Himalayan region. The foundation’s mission is to teach Buddhism and help those in need.

For our Sunday morning visit, we will join a short meditation and teaching sessions. (Chairs or cushions are provided.) Following the class, we will explore the grounds and have a tour of the monastery, which is breathtaking and set in a tranquil environment.

After the visit, we will have an optional no-host lunch at the nearby Zomsa Restaurant, serving Himalayan, Tibetan and Indian cuisine. The restaurant is at 10558 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito.
