"The printmaking process is reminiscent of light and shadow." Toru will present the development of his personal works as a printmaker in a multi-media context, followed by a lecture on the history of printmaking, demos and a presentation and summary of traditional print media, articulating characteristic differences of each technique. This will include the characteristic differences of prints from the Western world and Eastern worlds.

Toru Sugita, a printmaker and painter originally from Japan, received a Master’s of Fine Arts in printmaking from San Francisco State University and became actively involved in the community as an artist and an art educator for fourteen years. His prints can be found in various public collections including the Achenbach Foundation of Graphic Arts in the Fine Art Museum of San Francisco. Toru spent time traveling extensively throughout Latin America and the Middle East, finally establishing a residence in San Francisco. He is also known as the illustrator of the award-winning book Floating Lanterns and Golden Shrines.
