The art of Kunqu has continued from the 14th century and is acclaimed as one of the Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage by UNESCO. They will perform arias from the Peony Pavilion written in 1593, and from Escorting Lady Jing on a 1000 Mile Journey, the story of Zhao Kuangyin, founder of the Northern Song Dynasty, and the lady he is protecting who falls in love with him.

Actors Hou Shao Kui, Sabrina Hou, and Xiaomu Hou comprise this internationally noted Kunqu performing family. Sabrina and Xiaomu co-founded the Peony Performing Arts School, based in the Bay Area, in 2003. They have appeared in many local venues, including the Asian Art Museum, ODC Dance Theater, and the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
