Open for registration now! Asian Art and Culture in Honolulu June 22 – 27, 2026

Join us on this fabulous trip. We will have curator-led tours of two extraordinary exhibitions at the Honolulu Museum of Art: Divine Disruption: The Art of Tsherin Sher and Worlds Within, a retrospective of work by Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011). The curatorial team will also introduce us to the museum’s rich Pan-Asian art and Japanese woodblock prints collections and give us a talk on Quiet Luxury: Subversive Fashion in the Edo Period.

A rare treat will be exclusive tours at two extraordinary house museums. Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design is the former home of heiress Doris Duke (1912-1993), whose travels through Egypt, India and the Middle East in the 1930s inspired her to design a home that reflected the beauty, diversity, and craftsmanship of Islamic art and architecture while also complementing the natural landscape of Hawai’i. Liljestrand House, the former home of Dr. Howard and Betty Liljestrand, was designed by Hawai’i architect Vladimir Ossipof and incorporated Chinese and Japanese-inspired modern design to complement a fine collection of Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiian art and memorabilia.

We will also have guided visits to three shrines and temples for immigrant communities from East Asia, tours focusing on Hawai’i’s complex history, and a visit to the studio of a local artist.
