Come join us for a visit to this intriguing studio and watch a work in progress by Master Artist Tashi Dhargyal, who is working on a two-story-high thangka, known as a thanbochi. This is the first of this kind of work being done outside the Himalayan region. A thanbochi is a very large thangka that is shown on a hillside or a building during a special prayer ceremony and brings blessings to all who come to view it. This project will take four years and when completed will be two stories tall.

During this visit members are free to enjoy the surroundings of Sebastopol and can make plans to meet for a meal before the gallery visit in one of the intriguing cafes close by. Tea and light refreshments will be served at the studio.

Tashi Dhargyal is a master thangka painter who founded the Tibetan Gallery & Studio in 2013. He served as artist-in-residence at the Ganden Monastery in Dharmsala from 2006-2010. Tashi has traveled throughout India restoring and decorating statues; he has shown at numerous museums and galleries, including the Tibet House in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama’s temple in Dharmsala, and the Tibet House in New York among others.
