Renowned ink artist Zheng Chongbin, whose epic work “Ended Season” commissioned by the Asian is on display in the Chinese Painting Gallery, has consented to opening his principal painting studio in Marin to small groups of SAA members to discuss his practice. Classically trained in the traditional vernacular of Chinese brush painting on xuan paper, Zheng has developed an ink language of his own, pushing the boundaries of this medium and raising potent questions about the future of ink monochrome, the relationship of past and present, and the interaction of East and West. The visit in staggered groups of 8 will be followed by lunch with the artist at Lotus of India San Rafael.

Zheng Chongbin was born in Shanghai, and received his BA from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou before traveling to the U.S. where he earned an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1991. Recent solo shows have included those at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Shanghai Gallery of Art, and the Flo Peters Gallery in Hamburg.  Later this year he will have solo shows at the Asian Art Center in Beijing, the Asian Art Center in Taipei, and Valentine Willie Fine Art in Singapore.
