The Rama Epic and four of its main characters – hero, heroine, ally, and foe – will be the focus of a major exhibition being organized by the Asian Art Museum for late 2016. Included will be brilliant artworks ranging from ancient sculptures to innovative contemporary reinterpretations, drawn from the traditions of India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the West.

The lecture will give special glimpses into the early preparations for the exhibition. Then key works will be highlighted to show the main themes and approaches. Finally, works from the Museum’s own collection, some of them never before exhibited, will be placed in context.

Forrest McGill is Wattis Senior Curator of the South and Southeast Asian Galleries of the Asian Art Museum. He has worked for over thirty years as a museum administrator and curator, professor and researcher in Asian Art. He holds a PhD from the University of Michigan.
