Ang Tsherin Sherpa, a distinguished Oakland based Tibetan artist, is inviting SAA members to preview his new works for the upcoming Art Basel Hong Kong 2013, the largest contemporary art fair in Asia. Tsherin takes traditional Tibetan techniques and themes and applies them with wit and wisdom to modern life and pop culture. The result is both visually stunning and philosophically loaded. “Tsherin Sherpa’s works are swirling juxtapositions of colors, history, themes, religion and politics.” –Ginanne Brownnell, New York Times

Tsherin began his study of traditional Tibetan thangka painting under his father, Master Urgen Dorje Sherpa. He recently mounted a successful solo exhibition at Rossi/Rossi, London. His work has been exhibited in various cultural institutions and museums such as Earth|Body|Mind, Kathmandu International Art Festival 2012, Art Stage Singapore, and Rubin Museum of Art (New York).
