“California is a place of strong light and shadow. In India I felt a different sense of culture and spirituality. The light comes from within an object, not from outside it. In the cave temples you see light glow from the Buddha, and it is very peaceful” – says Younhee Paik

The attributes of Paik’s work are reflected by subject and method as her pieces are about transformation and transition between material and spiritual worlds. Her metaphors can be extended on a large unframed canvas or on aluminum plates and the light she uses in various ways signifies the spiritual Beyond – the light of heaven.

Younhee Paik was educated in Korea and received her MFA from SF Art Institute. Her works have been shown at SFMOMA, San Jose Museum of Art, Incheon Biennale and Gallery Hyundai in Seoul.
