Distinguished art scholar Joe Earle will talk about the various decorative arts that flourished in Japan during the Meiji period, with a focus on fine metalwork, lacquer, and cloisonné. The Japanese Art Society of America (JASA), which promotes the study of Japanese art and culture, is co-sponsoring this talk.

Joe Earle, a graduate of Oxford University, has worked in the field of Asian and Japanese arts and cultures for over 40 years. He held various curatorial positions at the V& A in London as well as the MFA in Boston and the Japan Society in New York. He has served as a consultant on Japanese art with Bonham's and written and published widely on the subject.
